Robert Washington is passionate about developing a growth mindset, which he learned early in life. Coming from humble beginnings in East St. Louis, IL, Robert faced a childhood that included physical abuse, a stepfather who was a convicted felon and local gang leader and drug dealer, and chronic poverty.
Instead of fighting his circumstances, Robert fought to create the life he wanted. He joined the US Navy days after 9/11 and spent ten years serving, which culminated in three USN Commendation Medals for heroic/Life-saving acts of bravery (2002), three Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Ribbon, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal.
After the military, Robert spent eight years traveling the world competing as a professional mixed martial artist and compiled a record of 20-10. He retired after a near-death experience during his last fight.
Robert's speaking career is inspired by his military service and his career in mixed martial arts. He engages with his audiences to share the tools of creating a growth mindset and fighting to create the life you want, both of which are tools of the mind. His goal with every speech is to positively impact people so they can transform their minds into tools of success.
